It hasn’t even been a week since Eurovision ended, and already we have confirmation from Portuguese broadcaster RTP that the contest will be heading to the Portuguese capital Lisbon. This opportunity has been 53 years in the making, and their eagerness is already clear! This is a stark contrast to the somewhat disorganised process of 2017, where the announcement of host city was postponed a number of times.
There isn’t much more information available at the moment regarding where the contest will be held, but many Eurovision fans and fansites are suspecting MEO Arena. The suspected Arena is only 15 minutes away from Humberto Delgado Airport, and the city has a large an integrated transport system, including Lisbon Metro, trams, bus and rail services. The capital also has a large amount of accommodation, meaning it ticks all the Eurovision host city boxes!
The Arena itself was built in 1998, and is a multi-purpose arean which has been used to host big name performers, including Adele and Shawn Mendes. The arena holds 20,000 people, which is ideal in terms of Eurovision, and the contending arena, Coliseu dos Recreios would likely be too small to hold the contest.
